How to Find the Key Code to the Operating System on a Computer
All versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system require the entry of a 25-character product key during installation. The key is designed to prevent software piracy, allowing for the activation of only a single copy of Windows with a given key. If you have your Windows installation disc case, look to the yellow sticker on the back of the case to locate your product key. If you no longer have the case, download and run one of several free key-finding programs to view the value associated with your Windows installation.
