How to Install Wireless Internet on a Desktop

Wireless adapters connect your desktop to networks.

Most laptops come with wireless Internet access built into the computers already. However, if the computer you use is a desktop computer, you may not be so lucky. Using wireless Internet reduces the amount of tangled wires in your workspace, giving you an advantage in organization. Fortunately, adapters exist even for desktop PCs.

Things You'll Need

• Wireless USB adapter
• USB cable

Instructions

1. Insert the wireless USB adapter's installation CD into the computer. Follow the onscreen instructions that appear to set up the adapter software.

2. Connect the USB wireless adapter to the desktop PC using the USB cable. Wait for the PC to recognize and install the adapter.

3. Right-click on the network connection indicator in your system tray, then click the option to connect to a network.

4. Click on a network in the window that appears, then click "Connect."

• Don't connect to a network you don't have permission to use.
