How to Reset an Administrator's Password on a Dell E1705
At times, you may need to change your Windows administrator password on your Dell E1705. This is a good idea when you feel that your computer has been hacked or when you have lent your laptop to someone that you do not necessarily trust. You should also change you password on a regular basis as a security precaution. Changing your Windows password takes about two minutes.

Shut down all of your applications and programs. This is highly recommended when you are altering settings.

Press the "Windows" key and the "R" key at the same time on your keyboard.

Enter "cmd" (without the quotes) in the field that appears. Hit the "Enter" key on you keyboard.

Type "net user" (without the quotes) after the ">" in the command window. Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard. This will render a list of user names on the computer. You can refer to this list to find the user name of the administrator.

Type "net user (username) (new password)" (without the quotes) after the ">" in the command window. For instance, if the user name is "marysmith" and your new password is "athome", then type "net user marysmith athome."

Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Confirm the reset password when prompted. Close all windows.
