Homemade Enzyme Urine Cleaner
If you have pets, you know accidents happen. Unfortunately, some pets are more prone to accidents than others. Enzyme stain removal solutions are effective, but they can get expensive if you have a pet who has regular accidents. Instead of purchasing pricey brand-name cleaners, try a homemade enzyme cleaner to remove urine stains from your carpet. Chances are, the ingredient is already in your kitchen cupboard and it won't cost you a dime. Does this Spark an idea?

Blot any wet urine spots immediately upon discovery with clean, damp rags. Replace the rags as they become saturated with urine. Continue blotting with new rags until the rags come away clean.

Mix three parts vinegar with one part water in a spray bottle. Spray the urine spot thoroughly with this homemade enzyme cleaner and cover it with a clean, damp cloth and a heavy book to help the solution soak into the carpet. Allow the solution to dry overnight.

Mix one part vinegar with three parts water in your spray bottle. Remove the book and the rag, and spray the urine spot again. Cover with a new clean rag, and put the heavy book on top once more. Allow to dry overnight.

Remove the book and rag, and vacuum the carpet.

Tips & Warnings
If the urine stain is dry when you discover it, soak the urine stain with the three parts vinegar to one part water mixture and blot it with clean rags before letting the solution soak in the carpet overnight.
Never use any cleaning solutions containing ammonia to clean your carpet. Ammonia will encourage your pets to urinate on the carpet.

Thank you! This works. I had dried in cat urine stains in several places. I measured then put the mixture in a washed out hand soap refill bottle (I don't have a spray bottle on hand). In under 10 minutes the stains were gone even right near the baseboards where I thought it was permanently stained (steam cleaning had only lightened it). I dabbed up the excess with an old towel. I'll definitely be using this from now on.
