Sharpening a photo makes it clearer and easier to see. You can use Adobe Photoshop, a popular photo-editing program, to accomplish this task.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Start Photoshop. From the File menu, select Open.

  2. Step 2

Locate the file and click Open.

  3. Step 3

Select the area to be sharpened using one of the selection tools. (To sharpen the entire photograph, do not select anything.)

  4. Step 4

Go to the Image menu and scroll down the list. Select Sharpen for regular sharpening, Sharpen More for more than regular sharpening, or Sharpen Edges to make the edges stand out.

  5. Step 5

Save your photo when you are finished sharpening by clicking File and selecting Save or Save As.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sharpening is generally used to bring out more definition in a photograph.
  • Sharpening a photograph too much will cause the pixels to stand out and look grainy. If this happens, select Undo from the Edit menu.

on 7/9/2007 In step number four it says that the sharpen choices are in the Image menu. That's incorrect. They are actually in the Filter menu, under Sharpen.
