How to Cash in American Express Travellers Cheques
Travel can be an adventure, especially if you're going to a country with a different system of currency. While you can convert your money into the home country's currency, many travelers like to purchase American Express Travellers Cheques, which are recognized around the world. American Express Travellers Cheques are safer than cash since they can be replaced if lost or stolen. They are also easy to cash in once you return home.

Use the locator tool on the American Express website to find a place to cash in American Express Travellers Cheques (see Resources). Input your information into the fields and click "Go" for a list of local locations.

Contact the location designated in the tool. Ask about store hours, transportation, parking, address and anything else you need to get to the store location.

Cash in the checks. When they are cashed, be sure the person accepting watches while you countersign the check in its lower left-hand corner.

Tips & Warnings
Generally, there are no fees when you use American Express Travellers Cheques. However, some businesses outside the U.S. may charge a small fee.
