How to Use a Springform Baking Pan
When it comes to baking a cheesecake or other dish that requires even, clean edges, nothing beats using a springform baking pan. Springform pans have an adjustable side ring that opens, allowing for easy removal from the base. Many pans are available with two bottoms, one for baked goods and the other for frozen desserts. Most springform pans are either 9 or 10 inches in diameter, but other sizes are available in specialty stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Place the springform pan on a level surface with the closing clip flipped open.

Place the bottom of the pan inside the open circle of the pan's sides.

Flip the lock of the springform pan to the closed position. This should lock the sides around the bottom of the pan.

Prepare the recipe that calls for use of the springform pan. Some recipes will require the pan to be greased, while others may call for a parchment paper circle to be placed on the bottom of the pan.

Bake, refrigerate or freeze the dish according to the recipe directions.

Unclasp the lock on the pan when the recipe is complete. This will allow you to remove the outer ring from the pan cleanly.

Tips & Warnings
Along with cheesecake, tarts, pies and brownies can be baked in a springform pan.
Wash and dry the springform pan in the dishwasher by separating the two pieces in the machine. This will allow the pan to clean on all surfaces.
Springform pans are often used to cook custards. Line the pan with aluminum foil before placing it in the water bath to cook. This will prevent water from seeping into the pan during cooking.
