How to Use Silver in Wound Management

How to Use Silver in Wound Management thumbnail
Use silver to help kill infection.

Silver is a centuries-old treatment to help in the healing of wounds. Modern medicine has confirmed that introducing silver into a wound can, in fact, help it heal faster because silver creates an environment that is hostile to infection. However, solid silver won't do anything if you just put it in a wound. You must prepare it properly, and for regular people to use silver in this way, you'll need to purchase silver dressings or other materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Silver dressings

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase silver dressings or silver bandages. These bandages have a dusting of silver or silver nitrate that's medically pure and safe for the body.

    • 2

Apply the silver dressings to the wound like you would any other sort of dressing. Make sure that the silver is against the wound and not opposite the wound.

    • 3

Change the dressings as needed. Once the wound has closed or scabbed over, though, you should switch to regular dressings. If the silver isn't going to enter into the body, then it isn't going to do anything to help prevent infection.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that the person you're applying the silver to doesn't have an allergy to silver. Ideally, he should have a medical bracelet that will list any allergies, but if the wounded person is conscious, ask him.
