How to Make Family Trees Online for Free
Putting together a family tree takes a lot of work. It's not a difficult process, but you need as much of the information about your family and your ancestors as possible. Once you have all the information you need, there are several websites that will allow you to put your information into a family tree at no charge.

1
Gather information about your family. Talk to your parents and grandparents (and great grandparents if you have them). Write down all the information you can about who was born where, as well as first names and last names. If you want to go back further than your still living family then you'll need to check with public records offices where your deceased family members lived in order to find their birth certificates, deeds and other documents. Always check your facts to be sure you have the proper people.

2
Make a preliminary sketch of your family tree. Start with the furthest back point (great grandparents, for instance) and then draw out how their siblings and children were born, got married and had children of their own. It should look something like a pyramid, or like the roots of a tree as they go down into the earth. Make sure you identify marriages and familial relationships with different symbols.

Find an online family tree maker that won't charge you to use it. Chartle.net is one website that allows you to make free organizational charts, which is basically what your family tree boils down to. Once you've found your site of choice, fill in your information and make your family tree into an online chart.
