How to Make a Sleeping Bag Liner

You can easily make a sleeping bag liner at home for only the cost of materials. Using a liner is functional in many ways, including keeping you extra warm during cold camping nights. You can also use this as a light weight option on hotter camping trips. Using a bag liner will give you a lot more flexibility and versatility while camping.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 yards of lightweight fleece
  • 1 zipper, 36 inches in length (two way zippers are best for ventilation)
  • Straight pins
  • Sharp scissors

Instructions

      Spread the material on the floor in front of you. Using your sleeping bag as a guide by laying it on top of the fabric, trace an outline around the bag.

      Cut one side of the pattern out. Leave the other side attached. Fold the cut side over to use as a guide and cut around it.

      Place both sides together but inside out. Pin the edges,

      Sew the bag up, leaving an area free where the zipper should go. As you get closer to this spot, stop and pin the zipper into place.

      Turn the bag right side out. Cut the area out where your head will go, right above your shoulders. Your liner is now ready to be used.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the piece of fabric that you cut out for your head as a pocket for stuffing. Sew the fabric and leave an end open so that you can stuff it. This will create a handy pillow.
