Plain white sugar crystals are an everyday condiment, but when you use them to create cubes or shapes, you can make interesting sugar art that's still good for its essential sweetening purposes. To create a basic three-dimensional geometric shape like a sugar pyramid, you can even create your own mold, adjustable to whatever size you like. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Create a pyramid mold outline on paperboard. Use the ruler to draw a shape made up of six equilateral triangles positioned edge to edge, each with two inch sides. (It will look like a partially-formed hexagon missing two of its sides).
-
2
Assemble the pyramid mold. Cut out the paperboard shape and fold along the inside triangle edges, forming a pyramid with a square base and an open bottom. Fasten the pyramid with clear tape; make sure there are no open cracks in the mold where sugar can slip out. Set aside.

3
Mix a little water into the sugar. Place the sugar in the bowl. Stir in water a couple drops at a time, mixing it thoroughly with the fork. Add just enough liquid to make the sugar moist, but not enough to make it sticky or melted.
-
4
Press the sugar into the mold. Hold the mold upside-down in one hand (so the open bottom faces up) and spoon sugar into the mold. Add a spoonful at a time, and after each spoonful, pack the sugar down into the mold with your fingers. Continue until the mold is full of tightly packed sugar.
-
5
Flip over the mold onto a piece of waxed paper. Lift away the paperboard to leave the sugar pyramid in place. Let the pyramid dry to hardness for about 6-8 hours; do not touch or disturb it during this time.
