Things You'll Need

  • CD/DVD player/recorder
  • VCR (video cassette recorder/player)
  • Cables audio/video (RCA: Radio Corporation of America)
  • Cable (RF: radio frequency/antenna)
  • VHS video tape(s)
  • CD (recordable with safety tab)

Instructions

      Place the DVD player/recorder near a television and plug it in. Place a video cassette recorder/ player near the two and plug it in. Straighten out the RCA audio/video cables and place one end near the input jacks of the CD recorder/player and the other end of the cables near the output jacks of the video cassette recorder/player.

      Plug the RCA cables into each component. The audio (L &R) and video jacks plug into the output of the video cassette recorder, and on the CD recorder/player, plug them into the input jacks. Connect the CD player/recorder to the television with the RF cable to connect from the antennae out jack to the cable jack on the back of the TV.

      Insert a video cassette into the video cassette recorder/player. Insert an empty recordable CD with safety tab into the CD/DVD recorder/player. Select the correct speed of recording on the recorder/player. It will have to match the tracking speed of the recorded video cassette for the best copying results.

      Press record on the CD/DVD recorder and player. Press play on the video cassette player.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use an extra disc to check the tracking speed of the recording. Insert an empty CD with safety tab into the CD/DVD recorder and player and record three minutes of the video cassette. Stop the recording and then play the CD. Adjust the speed according to the results by changing the speed and recording a little more until the speed and tracking are the same. Insert a new recordable CD with safety tab into the recorder/player and then record the whole video cassette at once.

  • Previously taped and copyright material cannot be recorded by this method. The material is marked, and the recorder will be unable to record it.

  • Adjusting the proper speed of the recording is important to the quality of the result. Follow the tips to adjust the speed of the recording to match the video cassette to avoid video cassette conversions that end in low quality results.
