How to Get a DUNS Number
A DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System) number is a unique nine-digit number that is assigned to each physical location of a business. The number is assigned and maintained by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) and is required in order to bid on most government contracts. Getting a DUNS number is easy and free. You can apply by telephone or Internet. Customer representatives are available between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (EST) Monday through Friday.

- Type of legal structure
- Name of the CEO or owner
- Type of business you are engaged in
- Year the business began
- Name of headquarters and physical address
- Number of employees at the physical location
- Number of employees working full- or part-time

Gather your data. You will need the legal name of your business and the type of legal structure it is, i.e., corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, the name of the CEO or owner, the type of business you are engaged in, the year the business began, the name of your headquarters and physical address, number of employees at the physical location, and the number of these employees which are full- or part-time.

Enter your business information and the verification code and click "Request a new DUNS number." Follow the screen prompts and you will receive your number within one business day.

Apply over the telephone to receive the number immediately by calling 866-705-5711 and providing the customer representative with all the information gathered above. The entire process takes no longer than 10 minutes.
