Make good quality WAV ringtones.

There are several programs that may come standard with your computer to help you make good quality WAV ringtones, including Windows Media Player and iTunes. There is also a program called QuickTime Player that allows you to edit and convert songs to several formats, including WAV. In order to edit songs within Windows Media Player, though, you will also need to download the WMP Trimmer Plug-In, since Media Player on its own does not come with standard editing options.

Instructions

  1. Windows Media Player

      Download and install the latest version of Windows Media Player from Microsoft, if needed.

      Visit Solveigmm.com and purchase the WMP Trimmer Plug-In, or download it for a free trial. Run through the installation process.

      Launch Windows Media Player. Enable the plug-in by clicking "Tools." Choose the Solveigmm option from the "Plug-Ins" menu.

      Open your WAV song in Windows Media Player by clicking "File" and selecting "Open..."

      Place your cursor at the front of the clip where you want your ringtone to start and press "Click to Start!" Repeat for your end point and click "Click to End!"

      Press the "In" button to trim the song to your selected points. Save and name your file, when prompted. Your WAV file is now cell phone compatible.

    iTunes

      Visit Apple.com. Download and install iTunes. Accept the terms of use and open the program.

      Click "Edit" and "Add to Library" to locate and add your song to the iTunes library.

      Click "Edit" and select "Preferences" to convert a song to WAV format. Hit the "Import Settings" button and choose "WAV Encoder" from the export options drop-down menu. Exit back to the iTunes library.

      Right-click your desired song and select "Create WAV Version." Your new file will automatically appear below your old one.

      Right-click the new WAV song and hit "Get Info." Under the "Options" tab, manually enter the start and stop points you want as your ringtone.

      Click "OK." Your new WAV file is now edited to appropriate length.

    Editing WAVs in QuickTime

      Download and install the free QuickTime Player and purchase the Pro Component from Apple. Agree to all licensing terms and run QuickTime Player.

      Load your audio into QuickTime by selecting "Open Files..." from the File menu. Find your song in the Windows Explorer pop-up screen and open it in QuickTime. It will open in its own player window.

      Place your cursor on the timeline where you want your ringtone to begin and press the letter I on your keyboard. Repeat for your out point and press the letter O.

      Click "Edit" at the top of your screen and select "Trim to Selection." This will cut out the parts of your song outside your markers.

      Click "File" and select "Export..."

      Choose "Audio to Wave" from the drop-down list of export options.

      Rename your file and select a save location on your computer.

      Click "Save" to begin converting your trimmed audio to WAV format. It is now ready to be used as a ringtone.

  • Consult your phone's manual for proper ringtone lengths.
