How to Change a HVAC Filter
The heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (HVAC) in your home or office controls and maintains the temperature and ventilation throughout the building. There is a filter in the unit that traps and removes dust, dirt, pollen and other debris from the duct system that distributes the air. This filter eventually gets dirty and must be replaced at regular intervals to ensure that the efficiency of the HVAC system is maintained. Does this Spark an idea?

Turn off the power supply to the HVAC unit. Locate the circuit breaker on your main power panel and flip the switch to the "OFF" position.

Find the labeled filter cover which is located along the return air duct. Unscrew the filter cover from the air duct with the screwdriver and remove it. Some filter covers are attached by clips. Unhook the clips to remove the cover to gain access to the filter.

Pull the old filter and slide it out from the air duct. A filter that needs to be replaced will be dark with dirt instead of white.

Insert the new filter into the allotted space in the air duct. Make sure it is inserted in the direction of the arrows that are printed on it.

Replace the filter cover and secure it to the air duct by tightening the screws. Turn the circuit breaker back to the "ON" position.

Tips & Warnings
Change your filter at least once every three months. However, if you have a lot of pets you should consider a more frequent replacement schedule.
