How to Charge Digital Camera Batteries

Charge the battery of your digital camera.

Although some digital cameras rely on disposable AA batteries, most have a special battery constructed just for the camera. These batteries can be charged through an electrical charger (supplied with the camera) that imports electricity from the power outlet to the battery. The connection process only takes a moment or two, however charging the entire battery can take several hours to complete.

Things You'll Need

• Digital camera
• Power adapter

Instructions

1. Power off the camera. Your battery is not going to charge quickly if the camera is powered on during the recharge (some batteries don't charge at all while the camera is on).

2. Insert the power cable into the power port in your digital camera. Plug the opposite end of the cable into a local electrical outlet. A light on the side of the adapter appears, signifying the battery is being charged. Typically this is a green light.

3. Disconnect the camera from the electrical outlet once the light turns to green (or turns off). This means the charge has finished and the battery cannot receive any additional power from the power source.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also purchase separate battery chargers made for your specific type of camera battery, so that you do not need to connect your camera directly to your adapter. This way, you can still use your camera to take photographs while you have a second battery charging and ready to use when needed.
