Add Chemicals to a Doughboy Pool

Chemicals are constantly added to swimming pools to maintain balance. Pool water contains many "levels" that impact chemical balance, and these levels must be well maintained to keep your pool crystal clear and safe for swimmers. Pool chemicals treat pool water, sanitizing and killing harmful bacteria and other contaminates within. Chemicals must be applied to all pools, including the Doughboy brand of pools. Chemicals are found in dry and liquid forms. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Calculate the total amount of chemical to treat your pool with. Read the label on the back of your chemical. The instructions tell you how much of the chemical to add per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Consult a pool gallonage chart to determine the total gallonage of your pool.

    • 2

Select the correct application method for your chemical. Each chemical is applied in a specific way. Liquids like flocculent and algaecide are poured directly into the pool water. Dry chemical applications are diluted in a 5 gallon bucket prior to treatment, and then poured directly into the pool.

    • 3

Treat your pool with the chemical. Avoid applying the chemical directly to the skimmer unless the label says otherwise. Apply the chemical to the pool water. Spread the chemical over as much area as possible. Complete coverage will result in faster treatment times and will ensure all of the pool is treated.

    • 4

Run your pool until the chemical has been incorporated completely into the water. Keep your pool running until there is no visible sign of the chemical in the water. Shutting the pool off while undissolved chemical is present in the pool can result in staining and the treatment being unsuccessful.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid letting chemicals settle onto the bottom of your pool. Take a pool brush and stir any chemical that settles.

  • Do not mix chemicals. Mixing chemicals is extremely dangerous.

  • Proper hand protection should be warn when handling chemicals.
