How to Make a Tassel With Embroidery Thread
When big sister shows off her graduation tassel, little sister might get jealous. Alleviate all coveting by presenting little sis with her very own homemade tassel made out of embroidery thread. While an embroidery thread tassel may not be the "real thing," it has its advantages. Embroidery thread skeins are inexpensive, which means that you can make several tassels for your daughter and her friends. Embroidery thread also comes in an endless array of colors from which your daughter can choose.
Things You'll Need
- 2 skeins (8 meters) of six-strand embroidery thread
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- 8 inches of gold elastic cording (l l/2 mm)
Instructions
-
-
1
Pull approximately 1 yard of embroidery thread--without separating the six strands--from its skein. Cut into three lengths of about 12 inches.
-
2
Tie the ends of the three lengths of embroidery thread. Braid the lengths of thread together and knot the end.
-
-
3
Slip the braided embroidery thread through the top loop of the skein. Tie the braid so that it forms a loop hanger.
-
4
Remove one label from the skein. Most embroidery thread skeins are wrapped in two labels; remove the label closest to the braided loop.
-
5
Wrap an 8-inch strand of gold elastic cording (l l/2 mm) around the skein, directly under the braided loop. Knot the elastic tightly and snip off the loose ends.
-
6
Pull the bottom label off of the skein. Cut approximately l/2 inch off the bottom of the skein to form the tassel.
