How to Change the Background in Adobe Photoshop
Digital cameras have made it possible for people to take more photos than ever before. They place the photos they are taking on websites, in digital picture frames and in albums. But sometimes you will take a photo of something that you would definitely like to keep except the background is not what you would like it to be. You might think that your only alternatives are to discard the photo or to take it to a professional to have the background changed or replaced. But if you have a copy of Adobe Photoshop, you can make this change yourself.

Transfer the photo that you would like to change from your camera onto your computer, or scan it in. Also load the image that you would like to use to create the new background.

2
Open Adobe Photoshop. Select "File" in the menu and click "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate the photo that you want to change and open it. Right-click on the layer and choose "Duplicate."

Click on the "Quick Mask" button at the bottom of the tools. Select the "Brush" tool. In the tools options, select a medium sized brush and make sure the "Opacity" is at 100 percent. Draw over the parts of the image in the foreground that you want to keep.

4
Click on the "Quick Mask" button again and the areas you painted will convert to a selection. Go to "Selection" and choose "Inverse." Now the background is selected. Hit "Delete."

Select "File" and click "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate the image that you want to use as the new background and open it. Right-click on the layer and choose "Duplicate, but in the dialog change the "Destination" document to the photo document.

Go back to the photo and draw the top layer below the middle layer. Select "Edit" and click "Transform." From the options choose "Scale." Resize the background layer to fit the image.
