How to Tweak XP Services

Services in Windows XP are small applications that run in the background to provide functionality in various different areas. If you want to make a change to the services on your system, you can do so by editing the service from the Services configuration utility.

Instructions

      Start your computer, log in and click on the "Start" button.

      Click on the "Run" option (in Windows XP) or click on the search box (in Windows Vista and Windows 7).

      Type "services.msc" and then click the "OK" button.

    • 4

      Double-click on the service you wish to tweak, make the appropriate changes and then click on the "OK" button to apply them.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may have to reboot your computer to see the changes you made, depending on the service you are tweaking.
