Metadata, simply put, is data about data. In MP3 files, metadata takes the form of tags within an MP3 file. For example, the artist, song and album information embedded in an MP3 file are all instances of metadata. Another tag that can exist within MP3 files is the album art tag. This is a digital image of the album cover of the MP3 file. You can use Windows Media Player on your computer to fix album art by changing the image file associated with your MP3 file.

  1. Windows Media Player

      Connect your computer to the Internet. You'll need an Internet connection in order to fix or update album art.

      Open WIndows Media Player by clicking "Start," "All Programs" and "Windows Media Player."

      Click the "Library" tab located across the top of Windows Media Player.

      Right-click on an album and then select "Find Album Info."

      Select the album information from the search results to assign the album art to all of the MP3 files within the album. Repeat this process for any other albums.

    iTunes

      Connect your computer to the Internet and open iTunes. Click "Start," "All Programs" and "iTunes" on a PC. On a Mac, open iTunes from your "Applications" folder.

      Click the "Music" tab in the left column of iTunes to view all of the MP3s in your iTunes library.

      Select an album. Press "Control" on your keyboard and then click on a song before selecting "Get Album Artwork."

      Click the "Get Album Artwork" button in the dialog box that appears. The album artwork is added to all songs associated with a particular album. Repeat this process for any other albums.
