1
Paint the paper plate an appropriate color for the purpose of the craft. For example, if you are making these hat crafts for Valentine's Day, paint the paper plate pink or red.
-
2
Cut four slits across the center of a paper plate. Leave only one inch of paper plate on either side of each slit. There should be one vertical slit, one horizontal slit and two diagonal slits across the center of the plate. This will look a bit like cutting the plate into pizza-like slices, except that you don't want to cut all the way across the plate. Use scissors to cut the slits.

3
Bend each of the eight triangles created by the slits so that each triangle is at a 90 degree angle from the plate.
-
4
Make appropriate decorations for the purpose of the craft out of construction paper. For example, if you are making these hat crafts for Valentine's Day, use red and pink construction paper to cut out hearts. Pictures can also be drawn onto the brim of the hat craft using markers, crayons or glitter and glue.
-
5
Attach the decorations to the hat using multipurpose glue and allow time for the glue to dry.
