How to Sew a Boppy Cover
Boppy pillows have become an indispensable comfort item in most modern nurseries. The support offered by these C-shaped pillows helps both baby and caregiver relax. These pillows can soil easily, and removable covers allow for easy cleaning. The unusual shape of the Boppy pillow causes many parents to refrain from sewing covers, but good results can be achieved by even those with novice sewing skills. Make several so that even on laundry day, your baby never has to go without the Boppy's comfort.

1
Pre-shrink your flannel fabric by washing and drying just as you plan to launder the finished Boppy cover in the future. This will shrink the fabric before you sew, so your cover will not shrink after it is finished.
-
2
Place one layer of the muslin fabric over the top of your Boppy pillow, smoothing out over the entire top of the pillow.
-
-
3
Pin the muslin to the Boppy on top of the seam around the side of the pillow, being sure that there is at least a half inch of extra muslin around the edge past your pins.
-
4
Cut the muslin around the outline of the Boppy where you have pinned it, adding a half-inch seam allowance all the way around the perimeter. Take the pins out and remove the muslin piece from the Boppy pillow. This cut muslin will serve as your pattern for the flannel fabric.
-
5
Lay the muslin piece on top of your flannel fabric, pinning right sides together. Cut out the flannel piece.
-
6
Use the ruler to draw a straight line horizontally across the muslin piece a third of the way down from the top. Cut along the line to create two pattern pieces.
-
7
Lay these two fabric pieces on top of the rest of your flannel fabric, right sides together, leaving a one-inch gap between the pieces. Pin down.
-
8
With the marking pen, create an additional half-inch seam allowance to the horizontal edges in the one-inch gap between the pieces cut in Step 6. Cut out the two pieces from the flannel.
-
9
Sew the zipper between the two flannel pieces just cut, between the horizontal line edges, using a half-inch seam allowance. Zip the zipper only halfway closed.
-
10
Pin the zippered pieces and the solid flannel piece together, right sides together. Sew them together using a half-inch seam allowance.
-
11
Trim threads and turn right side out through the zipper opening. Stuff with Boppy pillow and sew shut.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a Boppy cover, you can use that as a pattern instead of using the pillow itself.
Be sure to leave the zipper partially opened when sewing the cover together or you will be unable to turn the cover right side out.
