How to Remove Internet Gateway from Windows XP

The Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client allows your Windows XP operating system to interact with Internet gateway devices, such as routers and other computers. It is an optional component, but is enabled by default. If you don't need the Internet Gateway networking agent, you can remove it to free up space for other, more useful, programs. The removal process is done through the "Add or Remove Programs" tool, just like any other program you want to add, remove or modify.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the Windows "Start" menu button, which is located in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

    • 2

Select "Control Panel" from the pop-up Start menu, click on "Add or Remove Programs" and then select "Add/Remove Windows Components."

    • 3

Click on "Networking Services" in the "Components" list, and then select "Details."

    • 4

Clear the check mark out of the box labeled "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client."

    • 5

Click "OK," "Next" and then click on "Finish."

    • 6

Restart your computer to complete the process and save your changes.
