Make your own fingerprint power. Fingerprint powder is a great way to expose who was at the scene of a crime. Professionals use it all the time, but you can make it yourself. Place a candle under a porcelain dish to collect soot from the candle flame. Combine equal parts candle soot with starch powder to create fingerprint powder. When lifting a fingerprint, cover it with plenty of powder and blow off the excess. Use clear tape to stick over the fingerprint to lift it off the surface. Place tape over a piece of paper to preserve the fingerprint.

Hide your secret messages by writing them in invisible ink. Only a secret solution can reveal your hidden message. Mix baking soda with water. Dip a cotton swab into the mixture and use it to write out your secret message. The message will remain invisible until you wish to reveal it. To do this, paint grape juice concentrate over the area and the message will appear.

Make a book safe to hide your secret possessions where no one is likely to find them. Choose an old book that no one will miss, and pick a spot that is not immediately at the front of the book to cut the hole. Using the ruler, trace a rectangle around the inside of the page you wish to begin cutting. Use the box cutter to cut long the traced area to open up the middle of the book. Cut as many pages as necessary to make a desirable secret safe. Once the area has all been cut away, hide you secret items in it and close the book.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're a kid, don't do these things along; make sure you have an adult with you to supervise. Be careful when handling the flame, and be sure soot is cooled before collecting it.
