Even if you lose your job in New Jersey and decide to move to another state you are still eligible to file for unemployment benefits in New Jersey. As long as you follow the correct procedures you should have no problems filing for unemployment benefits while living in your new state.

      Check your eligibility. Go to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development website at http://lwd.dol.state.nj.us/labor/ui/ui_index.html to determine your eligibility for unemployment. To claim benefits in New Jersey, you must have been a state resident, earned a minimum of $7,500 or worked 20 consecutive weeks prior to seeking unemployment, and be involuntarily unemployed.

      Apply for benefits online at www.njuifile. Click "File a Claim" and follow the instructions necessary to file. Have your Social Security number, checking account number (for direct deposit), employment history and more available. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has a special number for out-of-state claimants at 888-795-6672.

      Allow several weeks for your benefits to begin, if approved. Your benefits will be paid from the week you file not the date you last worked. File as soon as possible. You will receive a PIN (personal identification number) when you sign up either by telephone or online. Use the PIN to access your account online and claim your benefits.
