Unlocking a cell phone causes it to work with other networks.

Like all cell phones, for the Samsung D900i to work it must be connected to a network provider. In this case, that network is T-Mobile. For the D900i to work on other networks, it must be "unlocked." Unlocking the phone means removing the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card T-Mobile puts in the phone, adding a new one from the new provider and entering a code specific to the phone that will tell the phone to accept the new network.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Request the D900i's IMEI code by contacting customer service for T-Mobile. If a customer long enough, T-Mobile will send the IMEI code, or the code identifying the specific phone, in a few days.

    • 2

Turn off the D900i. Remove T-Mobile's SIM card, which is located near the battery. Insert the new provider's SIM card.

    • 3

Turn the D900i back on. The phone will detect the new card and ask for the IMEI code. Enter the code. Now the D900i will operate using the new network.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes an unlock code will have to be purchased from the provider. After entering an unlock code and accessing a new network, not all of the phone's original features will work. The phone might be able to make calls but not go online, for example. This is due to the differences in data packages providers offer. Before unlocking the D900i, research how use of another network besides T-Mobile will effect the phone.
