How to Do Address Labels & Postcards by Typing at Home
Back in the days of typewriters creating mailing labels, envelopes and postcards was relatively straightforward. You just loaded the postcards, envelopes or labels into the typewriter, typed your information and mailed them out. These days few people have typewriters, and many of have never even used a typewriter. Fortunately, printers can perform all the functions that typewriters used to perform.

Open your word processing document and click on the "Tools" menu. Choose "Envelopes and Mailings" from the menu and then "Envelopes and Labels."

Click on the "Envelopes" tab and click on the "Envelopes" section on the bottom of the screen. Choose the size that best matches the size of your postcards. If there is no similar size on the list choose "Custom size" from the menu and type the exact dimensions of the postcard.

Type the address into the address field. Make sure the address is complete and correct.

Remove all the paper from the paper tray and find the envelope tray. On most printers the envelope tray is located on top of or inside of the paper tray.

Insert the postcard into the envelope tray and adjust the guides so that they fit snugly against the sides of the card. Click the "Print" button on your word processing program to send the address to the postcard.
Printing Labels

Open your word processing software and click on the "Tools" menu. Choose "Letters and Mailings" from the list and then "Envelopes and Labels."

Click on the "Labels" tab and type your address information in the "Address" section. Click on the "Labels" section of the screen to see the list of available label types.

Read the box of labels and find the label number or part number. Select the corresponding label number from the list in your word processor. Click on the "New Document" button to open your labels as a new document.

Load the labels into your printer and click on the "File" menu. Choose "Print" to send the labels to the printer.
