Choosing the Curtains for a Screened Room
-
1
Pick out your fabric colors and patterns first. Pick out the color, material and pattern that you want in the space. Find window treatments that match your decorating vision for the enclosed porch or sun-room, whether it is a tropical oasis, traditional floral getaway or something completely different.
-
2
Buy material to make your own curtains if you cannot find the type of curtains that you want, or enough of them to fill the space. If you are not handy with a needle and a thread, pick up a no-sew window treatment project book while at the fabric store as well.

3
Buy the rods and installation hardware specific to the type of window treatments you chose. Purchase tie-backs and decorative hooks as well, one set of each for each window or screen section in the room. You can always return any extras.
Hanging Curtains in a Screened Room

4
Decide whether to hang one panel or two at each screen section. Install one rod above each window or screen in the space. Hang a set of curtains on each rod for a traditional look, only one at each space (if it is big enough to cover the whole screen) for extra flair or alternate at each window---for example, the middle window only has one fabric panel and the windows on each side have two.
-
5
Install decorative hooks on either side of the windows. Even if you do not use all of them immediately, this allows for versatility in changing the design of the room later on.
-
6
Use tie-backs on the panels around the room. Play with the design, changing out the way you tie each panel. For example, tie the single panels in the middle of the space, while using the hooks to tie back the windows that have two panels or tie all the panels back on the right side of the room to the right and all the panels on the left side of the room to the left with the center panel being tied straight down to divide them.
Embellishing the Curtains in a Screened Room
-
7
Embellish your window treatments to bring more style into the space. Choose embellishments to add to the tie-backs to bring more drama into the room. For example, tie flowers around the tie-backs during the spring or holly during the winter.
-
8
Add other embellishments to the ends of the curtain rods or decorative hooks. For example, hang prisms at the end of each rod and one on each hook to match to add sparkle to the space.
-
9
Embellish the curtains themselves for additional style when decorating a screened room. For example, add trimmings of bead-work or fringe to the bottom or top of the panels. These can either be sewn on or stuck on with no-sew seam tape found at most fabric or crafts stores.
