How to Find Out Who Owns a Corporation in Iowa
Corporations are invented entities created as separate unique creatures under which business is conducted. When you need to contact a corporation's owner about something, such as potential business opportunities, the identity of the corporate owners may not be obvious or may be intentionally hidden from the public. In , Iowa, there is a quick and easy way to identify the owner of any corporation registered to conduct business in the state by using the state's secretary of state database on its website.

Click the "Iowa Corporations" link under "Search Databases" on the Iowa Secretary of State's website.

Type the entire name of the corportion or a word from or the first few letters of the corporation's name in the "Corporation" field.

Click the "Search" box next to the "Corporation" field. You may also have to choose the number of results to display per page.

Choose the name of the corporation for which you'd like to identify the owner from the generated list. Use the page number links under the search results to view additional search results, if necessary.

Click the number under the "Corp No." column to the left of the corporation's name to access that corporation's information.

Click the "Officers" link near the top of the page under "Search Databases." The individual listed as "President" owns the majority of the corporation.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't know the name of corporation, type in a word which might be part of the corporation's proper name, such as "flower" for florists.
You can also search for corporations with federal tax liens levied against them or which have notaries.
The registered agent listed may or may not be the corporation's owner. Registered aents are individuals or companies who accept service of legal process for the corporation.
