Creating a copy of a video DVD requires software to backup and compress the DVD and software to burn the newly compressed video. DVDFab backs up and compresses the original DVD. An original video DVD holds 8 gigabytes of data. A typical recordable DVD only holds 4.37 gigabytes of data. Once the video is compressed, burn the compressed video to the blank DVD with Nero 8.

Instructions

  1. Copy the DVD with DVDFab

      Install and open the DVDFab software.

      Place a video DVD into the computer's DVD drive.

      Choose the "DVD to DVD" option.

      Click the CD icon beside the "Target" text box. This will cause DVDFab to create an ISO image of the video rather than creating a VOB folder. Creating the ISO image simplifies the burning process in the next section.

      Specify the name and location on the hard disk for the ISO image.

      Choose the "DVD 5" option from the "Quality" drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen.

      Click the "Start" button to create the ISO image from the DVD.

    Burn the DVD with Nero 8

      Place a blank, recordable DVD into the computer's DVD burner.

      Open the Nero StartSmart program.

    • 10

      Choose the "Copy and Backup" option by clicking on the icon that looks like two CDs and a safe.

      Click on the "Burn Image to Disc" option.

      Choose the computer's DVD burner from the "Which recorder would you like to use?" drop-down list.

      Click on the "Disc Image or Saved Project" option.

      Open the ISO file that you created in the previous section.

      Click the "Next" button to burn the video to the blank DVD.
