How to Become a Nightclub Bouncer
While many people still see bouncers as burly men who like to get in fights, the field of nightclub security is about much more than intimidation. Today's nightclub bouncers need skills beyond self-defense in order to succeed. Take the time to develop these skills and you can potentially enter the field as a nightclub bouncer.

1
Take a conflict mediation course to learn how to resolve conflict peacefully. The purpose of a nightclub bouncer is not to eject patrons or engage in physical confrontation. The purpose is to diffuse potentially violent or disruptive situations before they get out of hand. A conflict mediation course will help you develop the communication skills you need to maintain a peaceful environment.

2
Develop skills in a martial art that focuses on self-defense techniques. Although your job as a nightclub bouncer is to resolve conflict with words rather than physical altercations, there may be times when you will have to defend yourself. Karate and tae kwon do are both martial arts styles that focus on defending yourself without severely injuring your adversary.

3
Learn how to spot fake IDs. An eye for detail will help you distinguish fake IDs from real ones, even in a hectic nightclub environment. Incongruous issuance and expiration dates, physical features and background coloring can all point to a fake ID.
-
4
Contact the club owners in your area to inquire about openings. You may find an open position immediately, or you may find a club owner who is willing to let you "shadow" an experienced bouncer until you become acclimated.
-
5
Dress professionally for the interview. Even if you will spend your work nights in a T-shirt and jeans, you want to give your interviewer the impression that you are a professional. Dress pants, a button-down shirt and a dress jacket are appropriate.

6
Contact other nightclub bouncers to get tips on peacefully resolving issues that arise in nightclubs, and integrate these tips into your own mediation techniques. An effective bouncer can minimize disturbances while protecting patrons and the club owner's property. If you can do this, the club owner will see you as a valuable asset.
