How to Make a Soap Pump
Instead of throwing away leftover mason jars, reuse them to make a soap pump. A canning jar soap pump does not require many materials and can be customized to fit any decor theme in your home. Give these soap pumps away to friends or family members, or sell them at a craft show.
Things You'll Need
- Quart or pint-size mason jars
- Mason jar lid and ring
- Permanent marker
- Drill with hole attachment
- 2 rubber washers (size of the soap pump tube)
- Soap dispenser pump
- Liquid soap
Instructions
-
-
1
Place the lid on the mason jar and screw on the ring to secure the lid in place.
-
2
Center one of the washers on the lid. Trace the inside of the washer with a permanent marker.
-
-
3
Remove the washer and, using a small drill bit, make a hole in the lid. It will be easier to drill with a hole attachment. The hole needs to be centered inside the traced washer, and large enough to insert the soap dispenser pump.
-
4
Glue a washer over the hole on the lid using a waterproof adhesive. Apply this exactly on top of the earlier washer tracing, so the hole in the lid aligns with the center hole of the washer.
-
5
Unscrew the ring securing the lid in place and remove the lid.
-
6
Position and glue the second washer around the hole on the underside of the lid.
-
7
Allow the adhesive to dry.
-
8
Place the soap dispenser pump into the hole. Insert it directly into the drilled hole now covered with washers.
-
9
Fill the mason jar with liquid soap.

Tips & Warnings
Buy a cheap soap dispenser at a convenience store, and save the pump to make your own mason jar soap pump.
Place fabric over the mason jar lid, and screw it on with the ring. Cut a hole in the fabric large enough to accommodate the soap dispenser pump.
