Most irons have an upper casing made of plastic and a steel soleplate. The soleplate is the part of the iron that gets hot, and once an iron is hot it can come into contact with all kinds of materials that will transfer to the steel and begin making a mess of the clean clothes. There are a few easy ways to keep the soleplate clean and in good working order. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Salt
  • Small saucepan
  • #0000 steel wool
  • Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner
  • Rag

Instructions

      Mix equal parts of vinegar and salt in a small saucepan and heat and stir until the salt dissolves. Allow your iron and the mixture to cool and then apply the mixture to the steel soleplate to remove evidence of scorching.

      Clean the bottom of the soleplate with #0000 steel wool pad. The pad will strip off built-up sediment and staining materials. Wipe the soleplate clean before reusing.

      Apply Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner to an absorbent clean rag. Iron the rag with your hot iron. The cleanser will dissolve as you iron and clean the bottom of the soleplate.
