Office Chair Castor Repair

Office Chair Castor Repair thumbnail
Fixing your own chair can save you money.

Rolling office chairs are convenient, but only when the castors---around wheel portions of the chair---are working properly. When the castors become dirty, clogged or damaged, the chair will not roll properly. Cleaning the rollers on your office chair on a regular basis is the best way to keep it functioning properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the chair on its side and examine the castors carefully. Look for pieces of carpet or other materials that could be jammed into the castors. Use the pliers or a pair of needlenose pliers to remove those items.

    • 2

Mix a 1-to-1 solution of mild detergent and water in a shallow bowl.

    • 3

Dip a cloth in the solution and hold it against the wheel on the chair. Slowly turn the wheel while holding the cloth tightly against the castor. Continue to turn the wheel slowly until the entire surface has been cleaned.

    • 4

Dip a cotton swab in the detergent solution and use it to clean any hard-to-reach areas in and around the chair castors. Continue swabbing the wheels and castors until no more dirt, grime or grease come off.
