How to Prepare Overhead Transparencies
Despite the growing use of LCD projectors and a computer, overhead projectors are still widely used in educational, training and conference settings. Overhead transparencies can help the audience understand the material presented by adding visuals and information to clearly convey the message of the presentation. Overhead transparencies can be used over and over again. Presentation software and an inkjet printer can be used to create custom overhead transparencies for your next meeting, training session or workshop.

Open a presentation software program such as Microsoft PowerPoint and create a new presentation. In the page setup option of the presentation software, choose slides sized for "overhead." To best accommodate the standard configuration of an overhead projector, change the slide layout from "landscape" to "portrait."

Create a slide for each topic you’ll be covering in your presentation. To add visual interest to the overhead transparencies, add images or charts that support the information covered. For easy reading, use a large font size of 30 points or more. Limit the lines of text per slide to 10 lines or less. Use double space between lines for easier reading.

Review each of the slides in the presentation. Run the spell check in the presentation to make sure the slides that will be printed on overhead transparencies are free of any spelling errors.

Load the inkjet printer with overhead transparencies made for inkjet printers.

Print the slides onto the overhead transparencies by selecting “Print” in the presentation software you are using. Let the overhead transparencies air dry for 5 minutes. Place a blank piece of paper between each slide to prevent the slides from sticking together.
