How to Arrange a Teen's Birthday Party Around the Disco Theme

Use a disco ball to create a '70s atmosphere for your disco party.

If your teen loves dancing, you may want to consider using the '70s disco era as the theme of her next birthday party. You can use this theme to create original party invitations. Then you can center the food and entertainment around the disco theme. You can even get disco items to decorate for the party. By using a theme, you will be creating a birthday party that your teen will remember for many years to come.

Things You'll Need

• Construction paper
• Scissors
• Markers
• Glitter
• Glue
• Beach ball
• Reflective stickers
• Cake
• Balloons
• Crepe paper
• Disco music
• Twister
• Tie dye materials

Instructions

1. Create a guest list and then get out one piece of construction paper for each guest. Cut out a picture of a pair of bell bottoms to represent the '70s era. Decorate it with glue and glitter, and then use markers to write all of the party info.

2. Choose a room of your house that everyone will have room to dance in, and then make a disco ball. Just attach reflective stickers to a blown up beach ball. Hang the disco ball in the center of the room.

3. Create a cake for your teen that is either the shape of a disco ball, or a cake that is decorated as a peace sign. All other foods served can be your regular party foods such as chips, punch, veggie platters and cheese trays.

4. Blow up silver and gold balloons to cover the dance floor. You can also do some crepe paper decorations of the same colors, and hang them from the ceiling. Silver and gold glitter is easy to come by and can be sprinkled on the food table for decoration.

5. Play disco music and have a dance contest. See which guests have the best '70s dance moves. You can also set up a twister mat for game time, and a tie dye booth for craft time. Friendship bracelets would be another great craft to make. If you want to take the '70s theme even further, you can have the teens create their own pet rock.

Tips & Warnings

• You can ask the teens to arrive dressed in '70s gear, or you can have a box of '70s attire for them to dress up in when they get to your house.
