Make sure your child's friends can understand the invitation.

When it comes to your child's birthday, you want to make everything just right. You may choose invitations that go with the theme of the party, but the wording of the invitations is important as well. Most parents may forget that it is most likely to be a child who will first read the invitation before he shares it with his parents. You do not want the wording to be overly complex so that the children do not understand what the card means. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Use an excited tone when you word the birthday invitations. It is a party, after all. Speak in the invitation the way your child would speak to her friends as she would invite them to a party. For example, your 5-year old daughter is not likely to say, "Please join the festivities."

Link the wording to the theme. If you are having a princess party theme, refer to it. Invite your child's friends to the "castle" for a "royal ball." This may be the most entertaining part of the invitation writing process.

Ask your child for some choice phrases he would like to include. Not everything your child says will be eloquent, but asking him what he wants the invitation to say will add an extra flare of his personality to the card.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your child is too young to walk or go to school, the invitation to a birthday party can be anything you want. Your child will not remember the invitation and chances are only the parents of your child's friends will be reading the card anyway.

  • Review some of the homework your child has brought home. Reading through some of old English homework assignments should give you an idea of the vocabulary skills your child's classmates and friends possess.
