How to Set up a Wireless Network in Windows XP SP2

A wireless network gives you a great way to use your computer over a wide area instead of having to be tied down to one location with a network cable. If you have a wireless router set up that is broadcasting a wireless signal, you can set up your Windows XP computer to connect to the network.

      Boot up your computer, log in and ensure that your wireless network card is installed and turned on. Most computers have a hardware switch on the wireless card, labeled with a picture of a radio antenna, that you can switch to the on position.

      Right-click the icon in the system tray that looks like a computer screen with round lines extending from it (the wireless network icon).

      Click the "View Available Wireless Networks" option to open the Wireless Network Connection window.

      Click the name of the wireless network you wish to connect to and then click the "Connect" button. If the network is secured, enter the wireless network password and then click the "Connect" button again. You are immediately connected to the wireless network.
