Locate a colony that may be living in your walls. If you have a swarm of flying ants or termites, then you may have an infestation. Look for evidence of shed wings by window sills and floor panels. Look for wood shavings on the floor, near the walls. Tap on the walls and listen for a hollow sound. All of these signs are indications you have an infestation.

Kill the flying insects. Once you determined you have a colony living in your walls, spray the outside of your home near the foundation with an insecticide. You can also place a bait system in the soil around the foundation of the home. The bait system will need to be checked every couple days to make sure the termites or carpenter ants are being killed. Even though you may kill flying termites and ants, you will still need to kill the infestations in the walls.
