How to Install a HP Deskjet 5160
You can easily install the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Deskjet 5160 in just a few, short steps. Use the installation disc that originally came with the printer. If you no longer have the installation disc, don't panic ... you can download the printer's installation software from HP's website. The software will install the necessary printer software and print drivers onto the computer, allowing the computer and the Deskjet 5160 to communicate with each other.

Downloading the Software

Turn on the Deskjet 5160 and the computer. Do not connect the two devices with the USB cable at this point.

Open the Web browser and go to hp.com. Click on the "Support and Drivers" link at the top of the page. Click on the button by "Download Drivers and Software" and enter "Deskjet 5160" in the empty window. Press the "Enter" key.

Choose the operating system you are using, then click on the "HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Driver" link. This will open a window where you will choose a place on your computer's hard drive to save the installation software. Wait for the installation software to download onto your computer.

Double-click on the installation software and follow the on-screen instructions, which vary depending on the operating system on your computer. Wait for the installation to finish.

Restart your computer after the installation is complete. Now you may connect the printer to the computer using the USB cable.
Installing With the Disc

Turn on the Deskjet 5160 and the computer. Do not connect the two devices with the USB cable at this point.

Insert the Deskjet 5160's installation CD into the computer's optical drive. The installation software will automatically come up on the screen. Follow the instructions for installing the printer as they are displayed on the screen.

Restart your computer after the installation software is done. Now you can connect the USB cable to both the computer and the Deskjet 5160, making sure the connections are secure at both ends.
