When activating a new cell phone with AT&T, the processing time varies depending on the day and time you ordered the service. But you can check the status of your new cell phone service so you will know when the phone is active. You don't have to guess--the status will tell you what stage the activating process is in.

      Open your computer's Internet browser. Click on the "AT&T Order Status" link in the Resources section of this article to access the AT&T Wireless Order Status website.

      Click on the down arrow next to "Search method" and select "Wireless number."

      Enter the phone number for your new AT&T cell phone in the box next to "Search number." The phone number was given to you when you purchased the phone.

      Enter the ZIP Code you used when signing up for the AT&T wireless service in the "Billing or shipping ZIP code" box. Please note that if your purchased your new AT&T cell phone from a retail store, enter the store's ZIP Code from your sales receipt in the "Billing or shipping ZIP code" box.

      Type the words you see under the phrase "Please type the characters you see here in the passphrase below and click Submit" in the "Passphrase" box.

      Click "Submit." Your new AT&T cell phone's order status will appear on the next screen. Click "File," "Print," "OK" to print the status results page or write down the status information on a piece of paper for future reference.

                      

Tips & Warnings

  • If your new AT&T cell phone was ordered within the last 24 hours, your order's status may not be available in AT&T's system.
