Ping A Web Address

Pinging a Web address is a process that will send packets of information to the Web address. The Web address then responds and acknowledges that it received the ping, sending a message back to the original ping source. Pinging is used to verify if a Web address is connected to the Internet and how fast it is processing incoming data requests.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the Start Menu and click "Run."

    • 2

Type "command" or "cmd" into the Run box and click "OK" to run the Windows Command Prompt.

    • 3

Type "ping" followed by the Web address to be pinged and press Enter on the keyboard. For example, typing "ping www.coo-coo.com" would send a ping to the Web address of www.coo-coo.com.

    • 4

View the results of the ping. Enter another Web address and press Enter to ping again, or type "Exit" and press Enter to exit the command prompt.
