How to Make Information Brochures

If you need to create an informational brochure on your computer, you have a few options depending on exactly what type of brochure you actually want to create. Once you decide whether or not you'll be printing your brochure for general distribution or sending your brochure out into the world over the Internet, you will then be able to choose exactly what program you'll need to use to complete this task.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a basic word processing program like Notepad or Wordpad. Right click on your computer's desktop and then select "New" and then "New Notepad document" or "New Wordpad document" depending on which program you're using. These are two good, free word processing utilities that will allow you to create your informational brochure using only basic text and formatting options. These programs will be satisfactory if you don't plan on including any graphics or other media items in your document.

Invest in a more advanced document creation program, like Microsoft Publisher or OpenOffice. Microsoft Publisher and OpenOffice both include all of the functionality of Notepad or Wordpad but also allow you to include more advanced formatting options as well as things like pictures, videos and other types of graphical enhancements. You can even include hyperlinks in your brochure (if you'll be distributing electronically) to allow your readers to immediately jump to a website that you're talking about.

Compose your informational brochure directly into your email program if you plan on sending it out electronically. Email programs also allow more formatting and graphical enhancements than either Notepad or Wordpad, but not as many as Microsoft Office or OpenOffice. You can type your brochure into the body of an email and allow people to immediately see it, as opposed to forcing them to download it in the form of an email attachment.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use the "Insert" button in any word processing or email software you've chosen to include images in your brochure. Some programs (like Microsoft Office, for example) have an "Insert" drop down menu. You would select "Insert" and then "Picture" to insert a picture. Other programs, like Wordpad, include the "Image" button as a selection on the main toolbar. Make sure your informational brochure includes the proper elements that make such a document worthwhile. You'll need to make sure you include sections like company or personal information (let the reader know who you are), new product information (if applicable), recent developments in your life or business and other things of that nature.
