Keyless entry remote

Keyless entry systems emerged in the mid-1990s to allow you remote access to your vehicle's door locks, trunk, engine starter and panic alarm. The 1996 Nissan Maxima is among the cars equipped with this technology, and you can program or reprogram your remotes in just minutes from your home after installation. Programming requires only the remote itself and your ignition key.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your Maxima with your keyless remote and ignition key, and close all of the doors behind you. Lock the doors once inside with the lock tab on the driver's side door.

    • 2

Insert and remove your key from the ignition six times in quick succession and wait for the hazard lamps to flash to indicate the start of the programming sequence.

    • 3

Insert your key into the ignition again and turn to the "ACC" position.

    • 4

Press the lock button on your keyless remote and wait for the hazard lamps to flash again, indicating successful programming.

    • 5

Repeat step four with any additional remotes, within five seconds of the last and waiting for the hazard lamps to flash each time.

    • 6

Turn the key to the "Off" position and remove it from the ignition to end the programming sequence.
