How to Maximize Your Internet Speeds
Internet speed refers to the amount of data your computer receives from the Web. Your internet speed depends on a lot of factors. If you have a dial-up connection, your Internet speed will be slower than the regular broadband connections. Your Internet speed also depends on your network devices like modems, routers and wireless adapters. It also depends on certain settings on your web browser, which if set in the correct way should maximize your Internet speed.

1
Upgrade your modem if it doesn't conform to the V.92 standards. Contact the manufacturer to make sure your current modem follows such standards. If it doesn't, consider buying a new one. Newer modems, be it for dial-up connections or broadband connections, can significantly maximize your Internet speed.
-
2
Use a shorter Internet cable if you use a wired connection. Shorter cables can transmit data faster than the longer ones.

3
Restart your modem. Sometimes, a simple restart of your modem can boost your Internet speed. Similarly, restart your router if you use a wireless connection.

4
Minimize the number of windows and tabs on your web browser. Close any unused program that may be using your Internet connection. Instant messengers, download agents, weather applications are typical examples.
