How to Make a Wall-Mounted Shoe Rack
Wall-mounted shoe racks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and are made from many different materials. Many shoe racks are made with spindles, bars or PVC pipe that stick out a few inches. These spindles can snag clothing, causing problems when trying to move about the house. A simple design will be easy to build and will take up less space than more common racks. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Sand all the wood used for this project so all the surfaces are smooth. This will stop any splinters from snagging on the fabric of your shoes.
-
2
Pre-drill a 3/8-inch hole that is 2 inches deep in the 4 by 4 board. The hole should be 2 inches from the end, and 1 3/4 inches from each side. Repeat this process on the other end of the board. Drill two holes in the other 4 by 4 board in the same manner.

3
Mount the 4 by 4 boards vertically to the desired position on the wall by screwing the 4-inch screws through the pre-drilled holes. The boards should be parallel and spaced 24 inches apart. Use your level to ensure the boards are truly perpendicular to the floor.
-
4
Screw the 31-inch boards perpendicularly to the 4 by 4 boards. Start at the top of the 4 by 4 boards, making sure the top edge of the 31-inch board is flush with the top of the 4 by 4 boards. There should be one screw through each end of the board that is 2 inches from the end, and 1 1/3inches from each side. Space the 31-inch boards 2 inches apart. All of the 31-inch boards should be parallel. You should end up with eight horizontal boards spaced two inches apart. The finished project should look similar to a small pallet that is mounted on the wall.

5
Place the toe end of your shoes into the 2-inch gap created by the 31-inch boards to hold your shoes.
