Putting an iPod into "restore mode" can fix problems with the device.

Putting your iPod into "Restore Mode" can fix problems with the device's software. When you restore the iPod, the device is reset to its original factory settings. This allows you to start over with the iPod, as if the player has never been used. You will then have the option of synchronizing and authorizing the iPod to any computer. Syncing the iPod with iTunes will let you restore the iPod and also install a software update onto the device if you wish to do so.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the iPod to your computer using an iPod cord.

    • 2

      Open iTunes.

    • 3

Click the iPod name found in the "Source Panel," underneath the "Devices" category.

    • 4

Click on the "Summary" tab found at the top of the iTunes program.

    • 5

Click the "Restore" button positioned inside the middle iTunes window. A dialog box will open. Click "Restore" in this window.

    • 6

Choose one of the restore options listed in iTunes. The one you select will be based on personal preference (such as if you wish to install a software update on your iPod), but any of the options will successfully restore the iPod.

    • 7

Click "Restore" after you've made your choice to finish restoring the iPod. You may then proceed in authorizing the iPod on that computer or disconnect the device from the computer after "OK to Disconnect" appears at the top of iTunes.
