Instructions

    • 1

Remove all nail polish from the fake nails. Use a cotton ball soaked in acetone nail polish remover to take off the polish. Use nail clippers to cut the nails as short as possible. File the nails with a nail file to smooth out the edges.

    • 2

Fill an old glass bowl with about one inch of acetone nail polish remover.

    • 3

Rub petroleum jelly around the skin surrounding the nails. This will protect the skin from irritation from the acetone.

    • 4

Place your fingernails in the bowl of acetone. Soak your nails for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 5

Remove your fingernails from the bowl. Scrape off the disintegrated acrylic nails using a cuticle pusher.

    • 6

Soak your nails for another ten minutes if any of the acrylic remains. Remove the nails from the bowl and scrape again with the cuticle pusher. Repeat the process of soaking and scraping until all of the acrylic is gone.

    • 7

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This will remove any remaining acrylic, as well as the acetone nail polish remover and petroleum jelly.

    • 8

Buff any remaining glue from your nails with a nail buffer. Run the buffer back and forth over the nail to remove the acrylic.

    • 9

Apply moisturizer or olive oil to your fingertips and nails once all of the acrylic is gone. Massage the nails and nail beds with the moisturizer or oil for about five minutes. This will restore moisture that escaped while using the acetone.
