How Can I Help My Child Learn to Spell Better?
Some children struggle with words, phonics and letters more than others, and spelling can become a challenge. There is a wealth of resources, games and strategies that can be used to help your child spell better. If he is not quite ready for that spelling bee, don't be alarmed. Work with your child and his teachers on different techniques. Children learn things in many ways. The task is finding out what works best so that they can become better spellers.

Surround them with more words and letters. Label things around the house so that they are able to connect the word with the object. The more they are able to identify letters and words with an object, the more they will be able to spell the word as well as pronounce it.

Schedule story time. It is extremely important that you take time out with your child to read. As you read the story, point to each word. Also, help her with beginning sounds of the words you're reading. Most children love to read, especially if it's an engaging story. This makes it all the more easier for them to learn how to spell different words.

Use flash cards. Purchase flash cards or make your own to help your child memorize and learn how to spell words. Allow him to study the flash cards and then test him. Post the flashcards around the house where your child can clearly see them.

Encourage your child more. Encourage her to read by taking a trip to the local library. Great readers are often great spellers. Also, instead of toys, purchase comics books and different types of reading materials for your child. Encourage her to play games such as Hangman and Scrabble. Make it a family fun night, and she will be none the wiser that she is actually learning.
